Understanding treatment
When should a Mounjaro dose be increased—and why gradually?
If you still don’t feel any obvious effects after a week or two of treatment, don’t rush to conclude that it’s not working.
Whether to increase the dose cannot be decided by hunger alone. Your clinician also considers weight change, food intake and side effects, allowing your body time to adjust.
Drugs need time to accumulate
When the next shot is given each week, the drug from the previous shot usually has not completely left the body. Taking Mounjaro as an example, after regular weekly use, it will take about 4 weeks for the concentration in the body to be close to stable. Therefore, the feelings you feel in the first week or two do not yet represent the full effect of this dose.
Gradually increase the amount to allow your body time to adapt.
According to the original manufacturer's instructions, Mounjaro must be used at the current dosage for at least 4 weeks before further evaluation; Wegovy also adopts gradual adjustments. If nausea, bloating and other reactions are still obvious, it may be necessary to postpone the dose increase. Please refer to the medicine bag and doctor's instructions for actual arrangements.
Just because there is no nausea does not mean it is ineffective.
The treatment is effective and does not need to be at the expense of being unable to eat at all. What’s more worth looking at is your weight, waist circumference, blood sugar, and whether you can eat and move normally over the past few weeks. When you are already feeling unwell, deal with the symptoms first, instead of trying to lose weight faster.
Make "no feeling" more specific
For example: whether there has been any change in food intake recently, the time when you are prone to hunger, changes in weight, and whether you will feel uncomfortable for a few days after the injection. These records can help doctors determine whether adjustments are needed. If you miss a dose or stop taking it for a period of time, please also tell your doctor.
Please explain these three things clearly during your return visit
First, tell me how long you have been taking the current dose, then tell me about the changes in weight and food intake in the past few weeks, and finally tell me whether you feel nauseated, constipated, or have affected your work. Even if you feel "hungry again", being able to eat three normal meals and constantly looking for food all day represent different situations; recording can help the discussion more than relying on feelings alone.
First write down the weight, food intake and discomfort in the past few weeks, and review it together when you return to the doctor. Do not increase the dose early or shorten the injection interval on your own.
