Storing Mounjaro and Wegovy: refrigeration, travel and pen care
The operation and storage methods of different injection pens may be different. Check the name on the medicine box first.
Check the exact pen model before following storage instructions. The information below applies to multidose Mounjaro KwikPen and Wegovy FlexTouch pens, not other presentations.
For first time use, please ask medical staff to demonstrate
Each time, check the medication name, pen model, dose, prescription instructions and expiry date. Wash your hands and inspect the solution. Do not use it if it is cloudy, discolored, contains particles or has been frozen. Before your first use, ask a healthcare professional to demonstrate and make sure you understand every step.
Change the needle every time and change the injection point.
Follow the instructions for your specific pen for priming or checking flow. Rotate subcutaneous injection sites between the abdomen, thigh or upper arm, avoiding redness, bruises and lumps. Priming frequency, button operation and hold time may differ between pens; do not apply another pen’s instructions.
On the day of opening, write down the date
Before first use, both pens below must be refrigerated at 2–8°C. Do not freeze. Once in use, write the first-use date and discard date on the box. After the discard date or the specified number of doses, do not withdraw or inject any remaining liquid.
Take it with you when you go out to avoid getting too hot or freezing.
Store according to the temperature specified by the pen type. Do not place it in the sun or in a hot car, and do not place it directly against an ice pack. If you are not sure whether it is overheating, ask your pharmacist first. After the injection, follow the instructions to remove the needle, cover the pen cap, put the used needle into a puncture-proof container, and then ask the hospital for recycling methods. Injection pens are personal items and cannot be shared.

Keep the complete name, dosage, pen type, expiration date and medicine bag on the medicine box, and record the date of first use. If it may be overheated or frozen when you go out, please indicate the approximate time and storage environment, and ask the pharmacist to judge; just relying on the appearance of the liquid to appear normal cannot confirm that the storage must be qualified.
